What Is ADSMCP?
What is ADSMCP? ADSMCP is an MCP (Model Context Protocol — an open standard for connecting AI assistants to external tools) server that connects AI assistants to advertising platforms. It gives your AI (Claude, ChatGPT, Perplexity, Cursor, Codex) access to 400+ tools for managing Google Ads, Meta Ads, Amazon Ads, ChatGPT Ads, LinkedIn Ads, and TikTok Ads through natural language. Instead of logging into 6 different ad platforms, you describe what you want — “find wasted spend across all platforms” or “create a Google Search campaign for my SaaS” — and your AI handles it.
Is ADSMCP an AI agent or a tool? Both. At the core, ADSMCP is an MCP server that provides 400+ advertising tools. On top of that, it ships a performance marketing agent — a specialized AI agent with brand awareness, strategy persistence, and proven workflows.See Agent Skills Overview for details.
- Tools only: Connect the MCP server and use raw tools. Good for quick queries.
- Agent + tools: Install the full plugin (agent, skills, slash commands). The agent follows proven workflows, remembers your brand, and persists strategic decisions.
How is ADSMCP different from other ad management tools? Traditional tools have dashboards you click through. ADSMCP is different in two ways:It’s not a dashboard replacement. It’s an AI-powered advertising manager that connects directly to your ad platforms.
- Natural language interface. You describe what you want. No dashboards, no button hunting, no learning a new UI.
- AI-native workflows. The agent researches your competitors, pulls real keyword data, writes brand-voice ad copy, and creates campaigns — all in one conversation.
Which AI clients work with ADSMCP? Any MCP-compatible AI client. Currently supported with setup guides:
Is ADSMCP a verified connector? Do I need a custom connector? ADSMCP is an official, reviewed listing in Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor, and Grok Bot. In Claude, Cursor, and Grok Bot, search for ADSMCP in the app’s own directory and add it. There’s no server URL, config file, or API key. In ChatGPT, the plugin is having issues right now, so add ADSMCP as a custom MCP server instead. The apps call it a connector, plugin, app, or marketplace listing, but it’s the same install.Don’t set up a custom connector in Claude, Cursor, or Grok Bot. The listing already includes the connector, the skills, and the agent. A manual server URL only applies in two cases: ChatGPT users who need the newest tools before OpenAI publishes the plugin update (ChatGPT setup), and Codex or other MCP clients that have no listing.
How It Works
How does ADSMCP connect to my ad accounts? Through OAuth 2.1 with PKCE — the same standard used by banking apps. When you connect a platform:You can revoke access anytime from your ad platform’s security settings. See Security.
- Your browser opens to Google/Meta/LinkedIn/TikTok’s login page
- You sign in with your existing credentials (ADSMCP never sees your password)
- You authorize specific permissions (read campaigns, create ads, etc.)
- ADSMCP receives a scoped access token — not your password
Can ADSMCP spend my money without permission? No. Multiple safety layers prevent unauthorized spending:
- All campaigns are created in PAUSED status — you review before anything goes live
- The agent always asks before any action that affects spend
- Skills enforce a read-before-write pattern — research and validation happen before creation
- ADSMCP never retries a failed campaign creation automatically
- Budget guardrails from your brand context file are checked before spend-affecting actions
What is MCP? MCP (Model Context Protocol) (Model Context Protocol) is an open standard created by Anthropic that allows AI assistants to connect to external tools and services. Think of it as a universal adapter between AI and the tools it needs. ADSMCP implements MCP so that any AI client — Claude, ChatGPT, Perplexity, Cursor, Codex — can access the same 400+ advertising tools through one connection. See How MCP Works.
What are skills and why do they matter? Skills are instruction files (SKILL.md) that teach AI assistants the right workflow for advertising tasks. Without skills, the AI guesses which tools to call. With skills:Skills are optional but highly recommended. See Agent Skills Overview.
- It follows proven workflows (research → validate → create → verify)
- Safety rules are enforced automatically
- Campaign creation works on the first try instead of failing mid-workflow
Not sure where to start — or why something failed? ADSMCP ships a group of free, read-only Diagnostic & Helper tools for exactly these moments. Ask your assistant things like:They’re quota-free (never count against your tool-call limit) and work on every plan, including Free. In ChatGPT and Claude, their results render as interactive cards.
- “What should I do first?” → suggests your best next step from your real connected accounts
- “Is my account ready to launch?” → checks billing, connection, and (for Meta) pixel/Page before you create anything
- “Why did that fail?” → turns a cryptic platform error into a plain-language fix
- “Diagnose my setup” → tells apart an AI-client connection problem from an ad-platform sign-in problem
- “What changed since last week?” → spend/conversion movement plus the top opportunities to act on
Can I use ADSMCP on a remote server or in Docker? Yes. Generate a Personal Access Token (API key) from adsmcp.ai/keys, then authenticate using either:You still need to connect your ad platforms via OAuth from a browser at adsmcp.ai/connections. The API key on your remote server will then access those connected accounts. See the OpenClaw Remote Server Setup guide.
- CLI flag:
openclaw adsmcp login --token sk_live_your_key- Environment variable:
export ADSMCP_API_KEY=sk_live_your_key
Do I need to install anything? It depends on your AI client:
- Claude (web/desktop): No URL. ADSMCP is an Anthropic-verified connector. Search for it in Customize → Connectors and click Connect to Claude. Guide →
- ChatGPT: Add ADSMCP as a custom MCP server: Plugins → Add → Add custom MCP server, paste
https://mcp.adsmcp.si/mcp, OAuth. Works on every plan, including Free. Guide →- Claude Code: One command (
/plugin install adsmcp-ads-agent@claude-community) — available on Anthropic’s community plugin marketplace (enabled by default). Guide →- Cursor: Install the Verified by Cursor plugin from Customize, or run
/add-plugin adsmcpin chat. Guide →- Grok Bot: Click Add to Grok Bot on the official listing, or add it from Marketplace at the bottom of the sidebar. Guide →
- Codex Terminal: One command (bash installer). Guide →
- Codex Desktop: Three chat messages inside the ChatGPT desktop app. Guide →
Ad Platforms
Which ad platforms does ADSMCP support? Six platforms with 400+ tools:See Platform Comparison for a detailed breakdown.
Can I use ADSMCP with multiple ad accounts?
Yes. You can connect multiple accounts per platform. Use switch_primary_account to change which account you’re managing, or specify the account ID in your prompts. See Multi-Account Management.
Does ADSMCP work with agency accounts? Yes. ADSMCP supports MCC (My Client Center) accounts for Google Ads and Business Manager accounts for Meta. You can manage multiple client accounts from one ADSMCP connection. See Multi-Client Management. Agencies and teams managing many client accounts at scale should book a demo — we’ll size a plan with multi-seat access and pooled tool calls.
Are campaigns created live or paused? Always paused. Every campaign ADSMCP creates starts in PAUSED status. You review the campaign — targeting, keywords, ad copy, budget — and manually enable it when you’re ready. This is enforced at both the skill level and the tool level.
Pricing & Billing
I see a $39 charge alongside my plan — did my subscription change? No. That’s the Prompt Engineering Playbook, a one-time add-on covering one ad account. If you added it during plan checkout it lands on the same invoice as your subscription, as a separate line reading “One-time Agent Setup — 1 Ad Account” — which is why that month’s total was higher. Your recurring plan price is unchanged and the $39 will not appear again. Annual plans include one playbook free.
What’s a tool call? Is it the same as a task? Yes — a tool call is a task your AI assistant performs for you, on a complexity spectrum:The same plan covers tasks at every level — you just use more calls when the task is bigger. See full breakdown.
- Simple task (1 call): “What’s my Google Ads ROAS this month?” · keyword research · pull last week’s performance
- Medium task (8–12 calls): Launch a single campaign — research keywords, write ad copy, validate assets, create paused, summarize for review
- Complex task (25–40+ calls): “Take my Q2 media plan and launch paused campaigns across Google, Meta, and LinkedIn” — multi-platform research, asset validation, and creation in one prompt
How much does ADSMCP cost? Pricing is based on tool calls, not ad spend:Plus subscribers get pay-as-you-go overage after 150 calls at $0.50/call, capped at $50/month. A typical single-campaign launch uses 8–12 tool calls; a multi-platform launch from one media plan uses 25–40+. The Pro plan ($99/mo) delivers ~120 hours of equivalent specialist work — about **76× cheaper than an in-house specialist** ($7,500/mo) and 15× cheaper than an Upwork contractor ($1,500/mo). See full pricing.
Is there a free tier? Yes — 15 tool calls/month, no credit card required. The free tier is sized to verify ADSMCP connects to your AI client and ad accounts and to run one end-to-end campaign as a taste test. It’s an evaluation tier — not enough for ongoing production work. For active campaign management, plan on Plus ($49/mo) or above. Sign up free →
Do I need a paid ChatGPT or Claude subscription to use ADSMCP? It depends on your AI client. Custom MCP connectors require:These are AI platform requirements set by Anthropic and OpenAI, not ADSMCP’s. Free alternatives that connect to ADSMCP without a paid Claude or ChatGPT subscription: Claude Code, Cursor, Codex, Windsurf, OpenClaw, and Gemini CLI.
- Claude: Pro, Max, Team, or Enterprise (connectors aren’t available on the Claude free tier)
- ChatGPT: Plus or Pro (connectors aren’t available on the ChatGPT free tier)
Do I pay separately for each AI client? No. Your ADSMCP plan works across all AI clients. The same account and tool call quota applies whether you use Claude, ChatGPT, Perplexity, Cursor, Codex, Claude Code, Windsurf, or any other MCP-compatible client.
Security & Privacy
Is my data safe? Yes. Key protections:See Security & Data Privacy for full details.
- OAuth 2.1 with PKCE — ADSMCP never sees your passwords
- Scoped permissions — you authorize exactly what ADSMCP can do
- Encrypted tokens — access tokens encrypted at rest, auto-refreshed
- Revocable access — revoke anytime from your ad platform’s security settings
- No billing data — ADSMCP never accesses credit cards or payment information
Can I revoke ADSMCP’s access? Yes, anytime. Go to your ad platform’s security or connected apps settings:
- Google Ads: myaccount.google.com/permissions
- Meta: Settings & Privacy → Settings → Business Integrations
- LinkedIn: Settings → Data Privacy → Permitted Services
- TikTok: Settings → Security → Authorized Apps
How are API keys secured? API keys are hashed with SHA-256 before storage — the raw token is never stored server-side. Keys can be revoked instantly from the dashboard, set to expire after a specified period, and are tier-limited (Free: 2 keys, Plus: 5, Pro: 10, Max: 20). See Security — API Key Authentication.
Does ADSMCP store my ad data? ADSMCP reads your campaign data in real-time from ad platform APIs and returns it to your AI client. It does not permanently store campaign performance data, ad copy, or targeting settings. OAuth tokens are stored encrypted for session management.
Troubleshooting
Nothing is working — tools fail or I can’t reach ADSMCP If no tools work at all (evenget_connections_statusorecho_testfails), this is a connection issue between your AI client and the ADSMCP MCP server. Follow these steps in order: Step 1: Check tool permissions Your AI client needs the right tool permission settings:If tools are set to “Block” or “Never allow,” ADSMCP can’t execute anything. Check your connector settings and toggle permissions. Step 2: Disconnect and reconnect the ADSMCP connector
- Read tools (performance analysis, keyword research, connection status): Set to Always allow
- Write tools (campaign creation, budget changes): Set to Custom (ask each time)
Step 3: Refresh your ADSMCP session If reconnecting the connector doesn’t fix it, your ADSMCP login session may have expired:
- Claude (web/desktop): Go to Customize → Connectors, find ADSMCP Ads & Performance Marketing Agent, click Disconnect, then Connect again and complete the OAuth flow. If you also have an older custom connector pointing at
mcp.adsmcp.si, remove it and keep only the verified listing- ChatGPT: Go to Settings → Plugins, remove the plugin you created, then Plugins → Add → Add custom MCP server again with
https://mcp.adsmcp.si/mcpand sign in. On the ADSMCP plugin from the directory? It’s having issues right now; disconnect it and add the custom MCP server instead- Claude Code: Type
/plugin→ Installed tab → select adsmcp → Authenticate (or use/mcp→ plugin:adsmcp-ads-agent:adsmcp MCP Server → Authenticate)- Cursor: Open Customize → MCP, toggle
adsmcpoff and back on to re-run OAuth- Grok Bot: Open ADSMCP from Marketplace and click Authorize again
- Go to adsmcp.ai
- Log out (click your avatar → Sign out)
- Log back in
- Return to your AI client and try again
[!NOTE] When does this apply? Only when nothing works — not even basic tools likeget_connections_status. If some ad accounts work but one doesn’t (e.g., Google works but LinkedIn fails), that’s a platform-specific connection issue, not a general connection problem. In that case, reconnect just that platform at adsmcp.ai/connections.
I clicked Authorize and the page didn’t change It did work. The Authorize screen hands off to your AI client, and that hand-off takes a second or two — so for a moment the page looks like it ignored you. What you should see on the first click: the button becomes a spinner reading Connecting…, with a line underneath naming the app you’re connecting. Clicks after that are deliberately ignored, so you can’t send a second approval by clicking twice. Desktop apps open over this page rather than replacing it, so those end on Sent ✓ — close the window once the app comes up. If it’s slower than that, the screen tells you. Around eight seconds it says it’s still connecting and asks you to keep the window open. Around twenty it tells you to press Authorize again if your client never opened — do that rather than reloading the page or going back to your client. If you left the screen open for a while, your ADSMCP sign-in may have expired behind it. Clicking Authorize sends you back through sign-in and returns you to the same screen with your request intact: finish signing in, click Authorize again, and you’re connected. You don’t need to start over from your AI client. If the retry still doesn’t land you back in your client, disconnect and reconnect ADSMCP using the steps in Nothing is working above.
I connected an ad account during setup and never got back to Authorize Connecting an ad account during setup opens that platform’s own sign-in in a pop-up. On mobile Chrome and desktop Safari that pop-up often comes back without a link to the tab it opened from, and ADSMCP used to hold the pending authorization in that one tab — so setup finished, you landed on your account page, and your AI client was left unconnected. It now follows the return. The authorization rides on the return address ADSMCP hands the ad platform, so an opener-less return still finishes the hand-off, and the plan step in the middle of setup keeps it too. If you finished setup in a different tab, go back to the tab you started in — the one whose address still carries the authorization — and it forwards you to the Authorize screen on its own. If no such tab is left, start the connection again from your AI client: open ADSMCP in its connector or plugin settings and click Connect. You’ll be sent back to Authorize with a fresh request. Your ad accounts stay connected either way — you’re only redoing the hand-off to the client.
Why does my connector keep disconnecting? (Claude / ChatGPT web) Claude (web/desktop) and ChatGPT periodically disconnect MCP connectors — typically every 1–2 weeks. This is normal behavior for web-based AI clients, not an ADSMCP issue. When it happens:
- Go to your AI client’s connector settings
- Find ADSMCP (in Claude it is ADSMCP Ads & Performance Marketing Agent)
- Click Connect (or re-enable it)
- Complete the OAuth flow if prompted
- Verify tool permissions are set correctly (read tools → Always allow, write tools → Custom)
[!TIP] If you find yourself reconnecting frequently, make sure you’re logged into adsmcp.ai in the same browser. An active ADSMCP session makes re-authentication faster (often just a single click).
Why isn’t ADSMCP connecting to my ad account? Common causes:
- Ad platform not connected: Visit adsmcp.ai and connect your Google/Meta/LinkedIn/TikTok account
- OAuth expired: Re-authenticate by clicking the MCP server connection in your AI client
- Browser extension interference: Disable ad blockers temporarily during OAuth
- Wrong account: Use
switch_primary_accountto select the correct ad account
Why do I see ‘token expired’ errors? Access tokens expire after 1 hour. ADSMCP auto-refreshes them, but if the refresh token (30-day lifetime) has also expired, you’ll need to re-authenticate:If re-authenticating doesn’t work, log out of adsmcp.ai and log back in to refresh your session, then reconnect the connector.
- Claude Code: Run
/mcp, select the ADSMCP server, and re-authenticate- Claude: Reconnect the connector in Customize → Connectors
- ChatGPT: Reconnect in Settings → Plugins
- Cursor: Open Customize → MCP, toggle
adsmcpoff and back on to re-run OAuth- Grok Bot: Open ADSMCP from Marketplace and click Authorize again
I hit my tool call limit. What now? You have three options:Plan-specific behavior:
- Upgrade to a higher tier — takes effect immediately and resets your counter.
- Wait for your monthly reset — your quota resets on your billing date.
- Switch to an annual plan — annual subscribers get one large yearly pool instead of a monthly cap. No monthly resets, no mid-month walls. Use calls heavily during launch periods and lightly when campaigns are running steady.
Check your current usage by asking your AI assistant:
- Free (15 calls): Upgrade to Plus or wait for the monthly reset.
- Plus (150 calls): Overage billing is on by default — you keep going at $0.50/call, capped at $50/month. If you’ve hit the cap, upgrade to Pro or switch to annual.
- Pro / Max: Upgrade to the next tier, switch to annual, or wait for reset.

My API key isn’t working. What should I check? Common causes:Generate a new key if the existing one is compromised or expired.
- Key revoked or expired: Check your key status at adsmcp.ai/keys
- Wrong format: API keys start with
sk_live_— check for extra whitespace or line breaks- No ad platforms connected: API keys authenticate you, but you still need to connect platforms at adsmcp.ai/connections
- Environment variable issue: Verify with
echo $ADSMCP_API_KEY
Campaign creation failed. What should I do? Don’t retry automatically. Common causes:If using skills, the workflow handles all of these automatically.
- Missing keyword research: Run
research_keywordsbefore creating Search campaigns- Invalid assets: Run
validate_and_prepare_assetsto check image dimensions, headline lengths- Platform not connected: Run
get_connections_statusto verify- Budget below minimum: Google/LinkedIn require $10/day minimum, Meta $5/day
